NICU Transformation at Princess Anne Hospital

We were delighted to join the team from University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust and the wider hospital community for a special garden party, marking the completion of a series of major developments at Princess Anne Hospital.

This event wasn’t just a celebration, it was a heartfelt moment to reflect on the scale and impact of the transformation that has taken place over the past two years. As principal contractor, LST Projects is proud to have played a central role in delivering these vital upgrades, which will benefit patients, families, and staff for years to come.

A Two-Year Transformation: 2023–2025

Spanning a 24-month period, this extensive redevelopment programme represents a £10 million investment in the hospital’s future. At the heart of the improvements is the expansion and enhancement of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), a lifeline for some of the hospital’s most vulnerable patients.

This wasn’t a cosmetic upgrade. The work involved complex structural changes to deliver a modern clinical environment that meets the growing demand for neonatal care. Every detail was carefully considered, from clinical flow to family comfort.

The upgraded NICU now features:

  • State-of-the-art treatment rooms that support cutting-edge neonatal care
  • Spacious, family-friendly bed areas designed to improve the experience for parents and caregivers
  • A vastly improved working environment for clinical staff, supporting their ability to deliver exceptional care under pressure

The project was a true collaboration between LST, hospital leadership, and clinical teams — and the results speak for themselves. Speaking about the experience, Kim Pease, Senior Sister on the NICU, said:"The work LST has done is truly outstanding. They’ve been incredibly supportive in bringing our vision to life and delivering what our patients genuinely need – we’re absolutely delighted. It’s important to remember this was a proper building project, not just a lick of paint. Structural changes were involved on our NICU that required thoughtful, well-considered planning. The transformation is phenomenal.”
