At LST Projects, delivering high-quality work is only one part of what defines us. Just as important is how we operate our standards around safety, compliance, environmental responsibility and the way we engage with the communities we work within. Continuous improvement sits at the heart of our culture, which is why our involvement with the Considerate Constructors Scheme (CCS) is so valuable to us.
The Scheme provides an independent benchmark for responsible construction, monitoring how well registered contractors respect the community, care for the environment, and value their workforce. Their visits aren’t just assessments; they’re opportunities to reflect, learn and push our standards even further.
Recently, the CCS carried out a monitoring visit at one of our current projects: the construction of a new SEND facility at Warden Park School in Cuckfield, Sussex Learning Trust. We are delighted to share the excellent results.
Outstanding Scores Across All Categories
Our project achieved an Excellent and here’s how the assessment broke down:
These results reflect both the dedication on site and the collaboration between our team, the school, and our supply chain.

Respecting the Community
Working within a busy school environment requires sensitivity, communication and a genuine commitment to minimising disruption. The CCS recognised several strengths from our team, including:
- Engagement with pupils, who visited the site to learn about the construction process.
- Support for local employment, ensuring local people benefit directly from the project.
- Goodwill works for the school, including improvements to shared access routes.
As a community-focused business, we’re proud that this aspect of the assessment was highlighted so positively.
Caring for the Environment
Environmental responsibility is a key part of our operational approach which is supported by our ISO 14001 accreditation and our ongoing drive to reduce the impact of our works. The Monitor noted strong performance in areas such as:
- Monthly environmental toolbox talks for the workforce.
- Active waste management and recycling monitoring.
- Consideration of low-embodied-carbon materials in procurement.
- Engagement with the school on shaping landscaping proposals.
We were also encouraged to continue expanding workforce training in environmental matters, something we already have plans to build upon.
Valuing Our Workforce
We were especially pleased to achieve a perfect score in this category. Creating a safe, supportive and inclusive working environment is non-negotiable for us, and the CCS acknowledged several areas of strong practice:
- Full compliance with welfare requirements, with well-maintained facilities on site.
- Mental health support, including a trained Mental Health First Aider on the project.
- Commitment to skills development, offering additional training and qualifications.
- Engagement with pupils around careers in construction.
- Monthly independent Health & Safety audits reinforcing a culture of continuous improvement.
In a project working around school hours, our flexible working approach and additional wellbeing touches, such as recreational reading materials, also received positive feedback.
A Team Effort
This result is a testament to the people who make LST Projects what it is. Our thanks go to Mick, Kevin, Jimmy and the full site team for upholding our values every day and for the professional and welcoming manner in which they hosted the CCS visit.
We also appreciate the constructive suggestions made by the Monitor. These insights will play a valuable role in shaping future projects and continuing our commitment to raising standards.
